Thread Group opens testing to members, accelerating development of products

Here at
ARM, we are very excited about this week’s announcement from the Thread
Group.  Simultaneous availability of conformant Thread 1.1 stacks from
multiple suppliers, including ARM, will jump-start development of new products
for the connected home.  Product categories include lighting, climate
control, appliances, energy management, security, or any other “thing” in the home.
Thread fills a big gap in the industry by making these products more secure,
easier to use, and easier to connect using open Internet protocols. 

This means
that consumer electronics companies can begin development right now using
Thread stacks from ARM, NXP, or Silicon Labs.  In addition to these
stacks, Thread members have access to automated tools that greatly accelerate
testing and certification throughout the product lifecycle.  These tools
include a test harness with a large set of scripts to confirm proper operation
in accordance with the Thread 1.1 specification.  Developers can integrate
the test harness with automated test systems so that regression testing can be

founding Thread with six other companies in 2014, ARM has made major
contributions to the specifications, automated test tools, and verification
process.  We are very pleased to include our fully conformant Thread 1.1
stack as an integral part of mbed™ OS 5.2.  “Conformant” means that ARM’s
software passes Thread’s automated test procedures.  Stacks from NXP and
Silicon Labs also pass the same tests, thereby inspiring confidence in the
validity and stability of the Thread 1.1 specification.
